Ionia Volleyball Falls To Holt On Senior Night

Thursday evening the 4 Ionia Varsity Volleyball seniors stepped onto their home court to play their final regular season match against Holt. After honoring & recognizing their contributions to the program, the Bulldogs opened play by siding out on the first serve receive. Senior Emma Hoppough, who has been sidelined much of the season due to injury, was able to serve the next point. Ionia went on to jump out to an early lead but was unable to maintain it ultimately dropping the 1st set 25-27. The Bulldogs regrouped and came out strong in the 2nd set, finishing it 25-17. However, the next 2 sets saw Ionia struggle to find a flow, and they ended the match in a 1-3 loss.

The Bulldogs were led offensively by Captain Senior Logan Thomas with 29 kills while Amaya Frias put down another 15. Senior Alli Shaw paced the offense with 40 assists on the night. Behind the service line Carmen Hoppough led the attack with 5 aces while Aubree Shaw dropped in another 4. Defensively the Bulldogs had a balanced effort with Thomas, Frias and Aubree Shaw all keeping 20 digs in play. Senior Marley Piselli had a strong night defensively at the net as well. Ionia closes out regular season 21-12-1. Thank you seniors for your dedication and hard work that has helped lead this program to where it is! The Bulldogs open post season with the District Semi-Finals game on Wednesday at 5pm at Lakewood. Let’s pack the gym and cheer on our Varsity Volleyball Bulldogs!
